On this day, Sri Vrinda, personification of Sri Maha Laksmi got married to Sri Krishna.  Legends trace the origin of scared “Tulasi Plant” as the embodiment of Sri Vrinda.  Hindu women worship the Tulasi plant and participate in the Tulasi Kalyanam on Utthana Dwadasi day.  There is strong Hindu belief that devotees that worship the Tulasi plant and participate in the Tulasi kalyanam on this day are blessed by Sri Maha Lakshmi.  Goddess Sri Maha Lakshmi grants the devotees happiness, wealth and long life for the entire family.
